Our Green Steps

Our Red checked shirts are ethically produced

For our full-time staff we buy our checked shirts from Rapanui. They make all of their products from natural materials, using renewable energy, and everything they make is designed from the start to be sent back when it is worn out. They then make new products from the materials they recover. Instead of making waste, they make new products from it.

Furthermore, in their factory on the Isle of Wight, their t-shirts are produced in real time, in the seconds after they are ordered. Only creating what people actually need, when they need it. The conscientious application of technology has enabled them to demonstrate that there is a different way of operating, and it works. We’d highly recommend watching the video about their 'circular shirts' here. You can find out more about Rapanui here. It’s quite inspirational and we’re proud to be supporting the pioneering, ethical way they create clothing.

Supporting ethical brands when you can afford to is vital, because consumer support helps drive investment in technologies and processes which bring costs down. Currently Rapanui products are considerably more expensive than other less-environmentally friendly options (£50 compared to £15 per shirt), and for many that means shopping ethically is not financially viable, however we have decided to make the investment and commitment to green companies and hope that by shopping ethically we are helping drive innovation that will eventually make ethical products affordable for all.

For our email provider we are using green net

Voted by ethical consumer the most ethical/environmentally friendly of all the email providers they rated. You can see where the big players such as Hotmail, outlook and yahoo fall in their score table here.

Everything online needs power. Not just power for your phone, laptop or computer but less obviously the far more energy intensive data centres behind all online processes. To put it into perspective, according to some estimates the carbon footprint of our gadgets, the internet and the systems supporting them account for about 3.7% of global greenhouse emissions. It is similar to the amount produced by the airline industry globally. This is according to Mike Hazas in a BBC article, a researcher at Lancaster University. And these emissions are predicted to double by 2025. You can read the full article here.

So how your provider powers their servers, along with many other aspects matters! And Green Net excel in being as environmentally responsible as possible!
